Abstract

Established in 2015, the Korea Disease Preventive Services Task Force conducted evidence-based public health topics. Through a systematic review, the Task Force examined the effectiveness of the mass-media campaign for smoking cessation and prevention. A total of 12 community-level trials were conducted to investigate the effects of mass-media campaign interventions. Findings of the synthesis of data were inconsistent. The cessation success rate was significantly higher in intervention groups than the control groups (OR=2.60, 95% CI, 1.24-5.46) and the prevalence of smoking was significantly lower in some studies (OR=0.85, 95% CI, 0.77-0.94), while the quit attempt rate was not higher after the exposure to the mass-media campaign (OR=1.10, 95% CI, 0.79-1.53).
